Euro 2024: Spain outclass England to win record fourth European title

SPAIN have won the Euro 2024 European Championship title after defeating England 2-1 in the final in Berlin, Germany tonight.

With the victory, Spain have now won the European Championship four times, more than any other country.

Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal scored for the Spaniards as they clinched the historic title, while Cole Palmer struck for England, who have now lost back-to-back finals.

The Three Lions also lost the Euro 2020 final three years ago on penalties to Italy and have never won the tournament.

Spain, who won all their six matches at Euro 2024 before the final, took the lead in the 47th minute, Athletic Bilbao forward Williams scoring off an assist from 17-year-old Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, but substitute Cole Palmer drew England level in the 73rd minute.

The Chelsea forward, on to replace Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo three minutes earlier as England chased the game, finished off a team move involving Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham with a sweet left-footed strike from outside the Spain box.

Another substitute, Oyarzabal, then struck a late winner with four minutes left on the clock for Spain, touching home Marc Cucurellaโ€™s low cross as LA Roja added to the titles they won in 1964, 2008 and 2012.

Since the 2002 UEFA Champions League final, Spanish teams and the Spanish national team have played in 23 major finals (Champions League, UEFA Cup, Europa League, World Cup, European Championship) against non-Spanish teams and won the trophy on all 23 occasions, according to Opta statistics.

England also made history, although unwanted, as they became the first team ever to lose consecutive European Championship finals.

Spain also won the individual awards, with Yamal named Young Player of the Tournament and Rodri the Player of the Tournament.
