Engr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo has reaffirmed his position as the authentic Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Omobayo made these remarks during a solidarity visit from members of the Edo State Drivers Welfare Scheme on Wednesday.
The drivers, led by their state President, Comrade Lucky Ukponmwan, gathered in large numbers at Omobayo’s office on Osadebey Avenue, Benin City, to show their support.
Chanting solidarity songs, Ukponmwan and his members expressed their unwavering loyalty to Deputy Governor Omobayo and Governor Obaseki.
Ukponmwan described Omobayo as the legitimate Deputy Governor of Edo State and reiterated the group’s strong backing for both him and the Governor.
“We are here to show our support for Deputy Governor Omobayo and, by extension, Governor Obaseki,” Ukponmwan stated.
“Edo people and members of the Edo Drivers Welfare Scheme will celebrate another victory in the September 21 governorship election.”
In his response, Omobayo thanked the drivers for their support and confirmed that he was actively fulfilling his official duties.
“I remain the authentic Deputy Governor of Edo State,” he asserted.
The Deputy Governor also received visits from Osaigbovo Iyoha, Chief of Staff to the Edo State Government, and Victor Enoghama, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters (Edo South), further demonstrating the solidarity within the state government.
This is coming after a Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the impeachment of Phillip Shuaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment on Wednesday, ordering Shuaibu’s reinstatement on the grounds that the Edo State House of Assembly failed to adhere to due process in his removal.
