The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, reinstated Phillip Shaibu as the legitimate Deputy Governor of Edo State.
The court’s decision nullifies Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly, which was deemed unconstitutional.
Justice James Omotosho ruled that the impeachment proceedings did not follow due process. The court found that the impeachment violated sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution.
Justice Omotosho ruled that Shaibu is entitled to all his salaries, allowances, and benefits from April 8, when he was impeached, until the end of his tenure.
The Inspector General of Police has been ordered to restore the deputy governor’s security details.
