Kenyan President William Ruto has dissolved his entire cabinet, with the exception of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs.
The decision comes on the heels of widespread protests against the controversial Finance Bill 2024, which was withdrawn in June.
According to sources, the President’s move is aimed at reshuffling the government and addressing the current political tensions.
In his speech, President Ruto stated, “I have, today, in line with the powers given to me by Article 1521 and 1525B of the Constitution and Sections 12 of the Office of the Attorney General’s Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney Generals of the Cabinet of Kenya, except the Prime Cabinet Secretary, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs, and of cause the office of the deputy president is not affected in any way.”
The President further said he will engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations to form a new, broad-based government. The move is seen as an attempt to address the growing discontent and restore stability in the country.
