An environment-friendly cement manufactured with over 30 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions has been introduced by one of the leading players in the landscape, Lafarge Africa Plc.

The innovative product, known as ECOPlanet Unicem, was produced from the companyโ€™s Mfamosing plant in Cross River State. It is good for concreting, plastering, and on-site block-making.

The product is the first low-carbon multipurpose cement in the country and signifies a major step in Lafarge Africaโ€™s ongoing commitment to sustainable building solutions.

Despite its low-carbon nature, ECOPlanet provides superior performance, suitable for a wide range of applications, from complex infrastructure projects to residential buildings.

โ€œThe launch of ECOPlanet Unicem is not just about introducing a new product; itโ€™s about redefining the way we think about construction and its impact on our environment,โ€ the chief executive of Lafarge Africa, Mr Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said at the launch of the new cement.

On his part, the Commercial Director for Lafarge Africa, Mr Gbenga Onimowo, said, โ€œOver the years, Unicem has built a strong reputation, earning the trust of consumers as a reliable and dependable option.

โ€œAt Lafarge Africa, we remain committed to leading the promotion of green products to drive sustainable construction within Nigeriaโ€™s built environment and we are proud of this significant achievement.

โ€œECOPlanet Unicem combines sustainability with superior performance. Our goal is to make ECOPlanet Unicem the go-to choice for anyone looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on quality or reliability.โ€

Business Post reports that the new cement product, ECOPlanet, will be unveiled nationwide by the end of the year as Lafarge Africa aims to double its market presence and enable low-carbon construction at scale.
