THE Federal High Court in Lagos has issued a final forfeiture order for five prime properties associated with former Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL) Major-General Umaru Mohammed to the Federal Government.
Following a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel A.O. Mohammed, Justice Chukujekwu Aneke granted the final forfeiture yesterday.
The EFCC informed the court that investigations revealed fraudulent misappropriation of the properties, with proceeds diverted for personal gain.
During the application for final forfeiture, Mohammed highlighted the Commission’s compliance with court orders, urging the court to grant the prayers and transfer ownership of the properties to the Federal Government in the interest of justice.
After considering the arguments presented by the EFCC counsel, the judge ordered the ultimate surrender of the five properties to the Federal Government.
The properties in question are located at No.8b Bedwell Road, Ikoyi; No.3 Force Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; No.14 Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; No.6 Marina, Ikoyi, Lagos; and No.28 Point Road, Apapa, Lagos.
Recall that on March 4, 2024, the judge had ruled for the interim forfeiture of the properties suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.
Additionally, publication of the order was mandated in a national newspaper to allow interested parties to contest the permanent forfeiture to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
