THE Lagos State Government is set to announce the reinstatement of the monthly environmental sanitation program in the state.

In a brief video shared on the Lagos State Environmental Update X page, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the reintroduction of the initiative.

The State Executive Council has also endorsed the reintroduction of the monthly exercise, set to commence in July.

Wahab, speaking in Yoruba, stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu will officially announced the resumption of the sanitation exercise this month.

The government stopped the monthly environmental sanitation in 2016, citing the need to address the environmental challenges of managing a rapidly growing population of 20 million people.

The decision however to revive the monthly sanitation program may have been influenced by recent flooding in certain areas of Lagos due to ongoing heavy rainfall.
