The Arewa Concerned Citizens Forum has endorsed the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa’s call for peace across Nigeria, amid planned nationwide protests scheduled for August 1-10th, 2024.
In a statement issued in Kaduna on Friday, the group expressed support for the CDS’s comments while emphasising the potential consequences of protests, which could lead to trouble and unrest.
The group’s statement was jointly signed by Aminu Ibrahim Kolo, Director of Youth Mobilization; Hajiya Hafsat Rigachikun, Director of Women Affairs; Sylvester Maybe Gora, Director of Logistics; and Enenche Moses, Assistant Public Relations Officer.
The ACCF shared the CDS’ concerns about the manipulation of innocent youths by external forces and political opponents seeking to undermine the nation’s progress.
They applauded the General’s appeal to Nigerian youths to reject the narrative of protest and emphasised the need for a collective effort to support a system that works.
The ACCF urged Nigerians to heed General Gwabin’s call for peace and collective effort, working together to build a brighter future for the nation, rather than resorting to destructive protests.
The group said, “General Gwabin’s wise words of caution and call for a collective effort to support a system that works resonate deeply with our organisation’s values and mission.
“We share General Gwabin’s concern about the potential consequences of protest, which could lead to trouble and crisis. Instead, we advocate for peaceful and constructive engagement to address the country’s challenges. We believe that Nigerians should work together to find solutions, rather than resorting to protest, which can be manipulated by external forces and political opponents seeking to undermine the nation’s progress.
“We applaud General Gwabin’s appeal to Nigerian youths to reject the narrative of protest and his emphasis on the need for collective effort to support a system that works. We also share his concern about the manipulation of innocent youths by those who seek to exploit them for their own interests.
“We urge all Nigerians to heed General Gwabin’s wise words and give peace a chance. Let us work together to build a brighter future for our nation, rather than resorting to destructive and counterproductive protests. The ACCF stands solidly behind General Gwabin and his call for peace and collective effort.”
