Amidst rising national tensions, Niger Delta youths have publicly pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, distancing themselves from any planned protests against the Federal Government.
This declaration was made during the launch of a Youth Internship Scheme by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Port Harcourt.
In a firm stance, the youths stated, “We will not be part of the planned protests against our president,” signaling their commitment to backing President Tinubu’s policies and initiatives.
They emphasized their belief in the administration’s vision for the region and rejected any actions that could destabilize the progress being made.
The Youth Internship Scheme, unveiled during the event, aims to provide 10,000 youths with valuable skills and training, with each participant receiving a monthly stipend of N50,000.
Akpabio highlighted this initiative as a significant step towards empowering the region’s youth and fostering economic growth.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC’s Managing Director, spoke on the evolution of the region from militant activities to a focus on intellectual development and skill acquisition.
He emphasized that the current trajectory of development, supported by initiatives like the Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement (HOPE), was vital for the region’s future.
The event also saw the participation of key figures such as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who underscored the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving regional stability and development.
Participants at the conference, including prominent stakeholders from the oil-producing areas, unanimously condemned any calls for protests.
They asserted that such actions did not reflect the region’s aspirations or the broader national interest, especially concerning critical infrastructure projects like the East-West Road.
The unanimous resolution to support President Tinubu and his administration marks a significant moment of solidarity and a clear message of commitment to peace and progress in the Niger Delta. This stance not only reaffirms the region’s support for the current government but also highlights a broader desire for stability and development amidst Nigeria’s complex socio-political landscape.
