In a significant development, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the House of Representatives in the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency for the 2023 election, Tolulope Philips, has formally switched allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naija News reports that the political transition was marked by a grand assembly at the PDP headquarters, where Philips was warmly welcomed by the party’s leadership, including the former gubernatorial candidate for the PDP in the election, Hon. Ladi Adebutu.
Philips, who joined the PDP alongside hundreds of his dedicated party members, revealed his motivation for the switch, stating that he was drawn to the PDP to collaborate with Adebutu in the state’s liberation efforts by 2027.
In an interview with journalists, Philips expressed a sense of regret for his tenure in the Labour Party, noting that his efforts were not fruitful and that his time there was ultimately a waste.
Philips said, “I realized that my time in the Labour Party was not yielding the desired results. I am hopeful that my move to the PDP will bring about the change I desire.
“I am thrilled to be joining the PDP family. I am confident that this is the right decision for me and my supporters. I am grateful to my loyal supporters who have followed me to the PDP. I promise to work tirelessly to ensure that their trust in me is not misplaced.”
He also expressed his optimism about the PDP winning the 2027 election.
“I am confident that in 2027, the PDP will be victorious in the elections. I am eager to get started and make a meaningful impact in the lives of my constituents,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Adebutu, who warmly welcomed the former LP Rep candidate, noted that the PDP was more united than before and is positioned to win in 2027.
His said: “We will run PDP together in love till we get the goal. I advise Philips to stop wasting his money and join the PDP for progress. Imagine the number of votes he wasted in that election.
“We are delighted to have Tolulope Philips join our party. We are confident that PDP will emerge victorious in the 2027 election.”
