Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the disbursement of 95 percent of project funds from the Abia State Agency for Community and Social Development Project (CSDA) to benefit 23 communities across 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
These community-identified development projects will begin construction within three weeks of the disbursement, scheduled for next week.
At a program training event on Thursday, Governor Otti represented by Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, Special Adviser on Policies and Interventions, emphasized the administration’s commitment to swift development across all communities.
Ekejiuba Ekpo, General Manager of the Abia State CSDA, addressed members of the Community Project Monitoring Committee (CPMC) from the beneficiary communities during the training on Thursday. He assured them of rigorous monitoring and evaluation to prevent misuse of allocated funds.
Ekpo highlighted Otti’s dedication to developing rural areas with limited access to basic amenities. The Abia State Government will contribute 95 percent of project costs, with beneficiary communities providing the remaining 5 percent as counterpart funding.
Planned projects include construction or renovation of primary health centers, water boreholes, and school buildings. Ekpo also stressed the role of community development officers deployed by local governments to monitor project progress.
The CPMC members were tasked with ensuring transparency, accountability, and commitment throughout the execution phase. Ekpo warned that project funds will be audited to guarantee quality construction.
The 23 beneficiary communities are: Amaeke-Alayi, Uhabiri, Ohokobe, Umuode Nsulu, Ndiaku, Ugwunagbo, Ogbuebele, Oria Na Agu, Abala, Nunya, Avonkwu, Ndiokereke Abam, Amaeke Isiegbu, Ajata Okwuru, Umuodeche, Ndiudumukwu, Nsukwe, Amato Isingwu, Umuawa Alaocha, Umuajiji Isieke, Mbato Ofoeme, and Mbom Afarata.
