The Nigerian Customs Service, Apapa Area Command has destroyed a confiscated frozen poultry product worth N329,430,807.
The Customs authorities on Wednesday, said that its personnel destroyed the products, described as โhazardousโ on July 11, in line with Section 23 of the NCS Act 2023.
Speaking at the destruction site in Epe, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, noted that the products were destroyed because they were unhealthy for consumption.
Olumo, represented by Deputy Comptroller (DC) Fidelis Nwanze, in charge of Enforcement, noted that the command is making an effort, to arrest those behind the product importation and discourage those who engage in it.
Nwaze further noted that the destruction would act as a deterrent to those behind the product importation.
โMy message to Nigerians is that these goods are not good for human consumption, so they should avoid them. In as much as Customs wants to encourage trade facilitation, we donโt allow illicit trade,โ he said.
