Pro Fubara lawmakers Vow To Revolutionise State Transport System

The Rivers State House of Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo has pledged to set a new standard of excellence by making a lasting impact on the state’s transportation system.

Speaker Oko-Jumbo made the remark at the weekend while declaring open a one-day public hearing on the Rivers State Transportation Reform Bill 2024, held at the Ministry of Women Affairs.

According to Oko-Jumbo, the bill is not just a policy change, but a commitment and promise to future generations, aimed at leaving them with a safer and more efficient transport system.

He said the public hearing is expected to gather input from stakeholders and experts, as the assembly seeks to pass a comprehensive bill that will transform the state’s transportation landscape.

With this move, he noted that the Rivers State House of Assembly is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of residents and commuters, paving the way for a modern transportation system.

Oko-Jumbo, emphasized that the Transportation Reform Bill 2024 goes beyond mere enforcement and regulation, aiming to cultivate a culture of safety, accountability, and efficiency within the transport sector.

He commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his consistent stress on accountability, aligning with the bill’s objectives.

He explained that the legislation seeks a comprehensive overhaul of the transportation system, encompassing: Land transportation, Marine transportation, Waterways, Motor parks and vehicles.

“This holistic approach aims to transform the transportation landscape, ensuring a safer, more efficient, and accountable system for the benefit of all stakeholders,” he emphasized.

He, however, urged all stakeholders to unite in support of the Transportation Reform Bill 2024, emphasizing the importance of collective effort towards its successful implementation.
