On Wednesday, the Senate announced the removal of Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume (Borno South) from his position as Chief Whip.
The decision was endorsed by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate Caucus during plenary, following a voice vote conducted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Ndume has been replaced by Tahir Mungono (Borno North) as the new Senate Chief Whip.
The decision to remove Ndume comes in the wake of his recent criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a letter addressed to the Senate Caucus, the national leadership of the APC called for Ndume to resign from the party and join any opposition party of his choice. The letter was signed by the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Secretary, Barrister Ajibola Bashiru.
This development highlights the ongoing internal dynamics within the APC and underscores the party’s seeming intolerance for dissenting voices within its ranks.
