THE official Euro 2024 European Championship Team of the Tournament has been named, with players of champions Spain making up more than half of the 11.
Spain set a new record in Germany, winning all their seven matches in the tournament, including the 2-1 victory over England in Sunday’s final in Berlin.
There are six players from Spain in the XI, with France providing two, and England, Switzerland and Germany having one each.
Spain’s representatives in the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament include midfielders Fabian Ruiz, Dani Olmo and Player of the Tournament Rodri.
Young Player of the Tournament Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, the two menacing wide forwards, are also in the team, as well as left-back Marc Cucurella.
Semi-finalists France have centre-back William Saliba in the team, along with goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
England, losing finalists for the second consecutive time, are represented by right-back Kyle Walker, while Switzerland’s Manuel Akanji, who has Nigerian heritage, is one of the centre-backs and Germany’s Jamal Musiala (another player with Nigerian blood) is the centre forward.
With Sunday’s victory, Spain became the most successful country in European Championship history with four titles won in 1964, 2008, 2012 and 2024.
