THE Super Eagles have slid down the FIFA ranking for the second consecutive month, according to the latest release issued today.
Last month, the Nigerian national team dropped from 30th to 38th following a draw at home to South Africa and a shock defeat to Benin Republic in Abidjan in 2026 World Cup qualifiers in early June.
Now, in today’s ranking, the three-time African champions have slipped further, dropping another spot to 39th in the world.
The Super Eagles are however still hanging on to a top five spot in Africa. They are fifth on the continent, just ahead of Tunisia by four ranking points (1498 to 1494).
Morocco (14th in the world) are the top ranked team in Africa, followed by Senegal (19th), Egypt (36th) and Africa Cup of Nations holders Cote d’Ivoire (38th).
Meanwhile, newly crowned European champions Spain have risen five spots following their Euro 2024 triumph.
La Roja climbed from eighth to third, with only Euro 2024 semi-finalists France and South American champions and world No.1 Argentina ahead of them.
England, who reached and lost two back-to-back European Championship finals, rose from fifth to fourth, taking the spot of Brazil, who dropped to fifth.
Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Copa America finalists Colombia and Italy complete the top 10.
