Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that aggrieved Nigerians can continue to protest while he and other officials of government will continue to eat from President Bola Tinubuโs government.
The Senate President said this at a meeting with the NDDC executive management, Niger Delta ethnic nationalities, and other stakeholders in Port Harcourt.
NewsNGR had reported that the August protest is most likely to cost the economy about N4tn.
The protest being planned mostly by youths who are decrying poverty, unemployment and hardship in the country will commence from August 1 to 10.
Experts have said the nationwide protest portends grave dangers for an economy which is already in a veryย fragile state.ย
But speaking at the event, Akpabio said, โWe are not interested in regime change. Let us own this government. Those who want to protest can protest. But let us be there eating,โ Mr Akpabio said on Tuesday.
He appealed to Nigerians to give Mr Tinubuโs administration more time so its policies could yield results.
โAs the Senate president, I want to appeal to all Nigerian youths to give this administration an opportunity for most of the policies to mature,โ Mr Akpabio said.
He added, โSo the whispers of our nation are already receiving attention. The economic challenges are known to the president because all of us feel the impact of what isย happeningย now.โ
