NOVAK Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have both advanced to the men’s singles final of this year’s Wimbledon after straightforward semi-final victories today.
The two met in the final last year, with the much younger Alcaraz defeating Djokovic, the most successful men’s tennis player of all time in terms of Grand Slam titles.
To progress to the final, Djokovic, 37, held off 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 7-6, 6-4 tonight to reach his 10th Wimbledon final.
The legendary Serb, who has won a record 24 men’s singles Grand Slam titles, will be playing in his 37th Major final, another record.
Earlier in the day, 21-year-old Spaniard Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev in four sets of 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to reach his second Grand Slam final this year, after the French Open.
Alcaraz becmes only the fifth male player this century to reach both the Roland Garros and Wimbledon finals in the same season, following in the footsteps of Rafael Nadal (five times), Djokovic (four times), Roger Federer (four times) and
Andy Murray (2016).
It is also Alcaraz’s fourth career Grand Slam final and he has won 17 of his 18 matches in Majors this year.
