The Indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have lauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing an indigene of the FCT, Mr Musa Dikko, as the Public Complaints Commissioner.
The Natives under the auspices of the FCT Indigenes Retired Senior Paramilitary Union said his action has proven that he has their love at heart, adding that under his watch, they would not be shortchanged politically.
NewsNGR recalls that earlier this month, Tinubu had approved the appointment of the former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja, to the position.
This initial choice was met with strong opposition from FCT residents and natives.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, on behalf of the concerned indigenes, Elder Danjuma Tanko Dara praised Tinubu for reversing the decision in favour of an FCT native.
They highlighted the responsiveness of Tinubu and the Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike to local sentiments and commended them for appointing a local to the role.
“You’ve proven more that the present administration has the interest of the natives at heart and would ensure that the natives are not shortchanged in any political appointments that are due to them.
“We also appreciate the efforts of the FCT Minister of State, Maryam Mahmoud, all the cabinet members of the Tinubu/Shettima-led government, and the six area councils chairmen for their immense support for the present administration and ensuring that there is progress and development in the FCT,” they said.
They also lauded Senator Ireti Kingibe and Hon. Obika Chinedu for their support and advocacy on behalf of FCT residents, noting their active involvement contrasts with previous inaction by past representatives.
The FCT natives also lauded the recent establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the Women Affairs Secretariat, and the FCT Youths Development Secretariat, which he said has boosted public confidence in the government.
The FCT natives expressed their satisfaction with the new projects and developments initiated by the current administration and urged Tinubu to further honour his commitment to the region.
They called on him to ensure that the court’s decision recognizing the FCT as a state is implemented, which would enable residents to elect their political leaders in future elections.
They, however, urged support for the newly appointed Public Complaints Commissioner, Musa Dikko, and advised him to leverage his expertise and maintain a clear separation between politics and his duties to meet the high expectations of the FCT residents.
