Argentine boss Diego Simeone urges patience as Conor Gallagher and Julián Álvarez adapt to Atlético Madrid

Diego Simeone has urged patience as new signings Julián Álvarez and Conor Gallagher adjust to life at Atlético Madrid, Soccernet.football reports.

The duo featured in Atlético’s 3-0 La Liga victory over Girona on Sunday, with Álvarez making his first start for the club and Gallagher debuting as a second-half substitute.

Álvarez, who joined Atlético from Manchester City this summer, played 81 minutes in a central forward role at the Metropolitano.

The Argentine forward is Atlético’s marquee signing this transfer window, having scored 11 Premier League goals for City last season.

Simeone expressed confidence in Álvarez’s ability to deliver for the team, whether as a centre-forward or in other attacking roles.

“We know what Julian has, what he can give us,” Simeone stated as per DiarioAS. “We’ll try to take advantage of his qualities whether as a centre forward, a second forward, or on the wing. We’re convinced we have an incredible player for the present and the future.”

Conor Gallagher, who arrived from Chelsea just last week, made his debut as a 58th-minute substitute. Simeone praised the England midfielder’s energy but emphasised the need for time to adapt.

“[Gallagher] came on with a lot of energy,” Simeone said in his post-match press conference. “He needs a bit of time to get used to opponents and to his teammates. With his enthusiasm and passion, we have to help him so that adrenaline is positive for the team.”

Atlético Madrid, who are heavily investing in the transfer market to challenge Real Madrid and Barcelona for the La Liga title, will host Espanyol at the Metropolitano in their next match on Wednesday.
