ATLETICO Madrid have completed the signing of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City, both clubs have confirmed.
The Argentina international joins in a deal worth a staggering €95 million: €75m in guaranteed transfer fee and €20m in add-ons.
“Atlético de Madrid and Manchester City have reached an agreement for the transfer of Julián Alvarez, who has signed for the club until 2030,” the Spanish club announced on their official website today.
“The 24-year-old Argentinian, a full international with his country, is a versatile attacker who is quick, skilful and has a great ability to link up with his teammates. He is also capable of operating as a playmaker.
“After coming through the youth ranks at River Plate, who he joined as a youth player in 2016, Alvarez made his professional debut with the Argentine club’s first team on 27th October 2018.
“A few weeks later he won the Copa Libertadores, coming off the bench during extra time in the final. He scored his first competitive goal on 17th March 2019 and, over the next few years, went on to win the Copa Argentina, Supercopa Argentina, Primera División and Trofeo de Campeones.
“On an individual level, Alvarez was the top scorer in the Argentinian league in the 2020/21 season with 18 goals. He finished his time at River Plate with 54 goals and 31 assists in 122 games.”
Alvarez joined Manchester City in 2022 from River Plate for €21.5m, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, European Super Cup and the Club World Cup, with the English club.
Across two seasons in England, he played 103 games and registered 36 goals and 18 assists.
Alvarez has earned 36 caps for Argentina, scoring nine goals and providing one assist, and winning the 2022 World Cup as well as the 2024 Copa America with the team.
