Yakubu Jadi, the district head of Garu Kurama in Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State, and six other members of Gurzan Kurama village have been kidnapped by bandits.
The victims include the local Catholic church’s catechist and the district head’s daughter.
The abductions occurred on the night of Friday, August 23rd. While the Kaduna State police have yet to confirm the incident, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has released a statement detailing the kidnappings.
According to Josiah Abraks, SOKAPU’s public relations officer, the bandits have not yet made contact with the victims’ families.
Describing the situation as “unfortunate, alarming, and worrisome,” SOKAPU has called for an urgent response from security agencies and relevant authorities. The organization urges the Federal Government to enhance its efforts in protecting citizens’ lives and property.
SOKAPU has also advised communities to increase vigilance, monitor unusual activities, and report suspicious movements to the appropriate authorities to prevent further incidents.
