The Kaduna State Security Council has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on August 4, 2024, following a review of the security situation in the state.
According to a statement by the overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the curfew will now be in effect from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily, allowing citizens to move freely and carry out their legitimate activities.
It said Governor Uba Sani-led Security Council made the decision to relax the curfew, citing improved security conditions in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs.
However, security forces would continue to enforce the curfew during the restricted hours and take decisive action against any actions that may lead to a breakdown of law and order.
The relaxed curfew takes effect from Thursday, August 8, 2024, the statement added.
It noted that the State Security Council reaffirmed its commitment to peace and security in the state and pledged to take all necessary steps to preserve them.
The development, it continued, was expected to bring relief to citizens who had been under a 24-hour curfew since August 4, 2024.
“The state government’s decision to relax the curfew is seen as a positive step towards restoring normalcy in the affe ted areas,” it added.
The statement titled: ‘Kaduna Security Council relaxes curfew; Curfew now 6pm to 8am, while citizens can move from 8am to 6pm,’ read:
“The Kaduna State Security Council under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, after a thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and environs, has unanimously agreed to relax the 24-hour curfew earlier imposed on Monday 4th August 2024.
“By this review, the curfew will now be in effect from 6pm to 8am daily. This implies that citizens may move freely and carry out their legitimate activities between 8am and 6pm, and will revert to the curfew from 6pm to 8am
“The Kaduna State Security Council reiterates its total commitment to the peace and security of the State, and will continue to take all steps deemed necessary for their preservation.
“Furthermore, the security forces will continue to vigorously enforce the curfew from 6pm to 8am, and will be decisive in confronting actions which may lead to a breakdown of law and order during periods of movement as well as restriction.
“This is with effect from tomorrow, Thursday 8th August, 2024.”
