In a surprising turn of events, Bruno Labbadia has halted all discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding the role of Super Eagles head coach.
The German tactician, who had been previously announced as the new coach of Nigeria’s national team, has withdrawn from the position following a deadlock in contract negotiations.
Despite Labbadia being presented as the incoming coach, his contract details remained unresolved, leading to a series of protracted discussions between both parties.
The NFF was keen on finalizing the contract by Friday, with plans for Labbadia to travel to Uyo and assume leadership of the Super Eagles ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
However, sources close to the negotiations revealed that the final round of talks between Labbadia and the NFF ended in a stalemate, leaving the federation with the task of finding a new coach for the team.
The breakdown in talks marks a significant setback for the NFF, which had hoped to have a seasoned coach like Labbadia at the helm as the Super Eagles prepare for the important fixtures.
The NFF is now expected to revisit its options, as the search for a new head coach becomes urgent with the AFCON qualifiers fast approaching.
