A security operative was captured on video shooting a protester in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, on Monday.
In the video, the unidentified protester is seen pinned to the ground by several individuals who were torturing him. The protester, lying on the ground, was repeatedly struck by two or three people. Moments later, an officer standing by a white Toyota Hilux van approached the victim. After hitting him twice, the officer aimed his rifle at the protester and pulled the trigger, causing the crowd to yell as the officer walked away without looking back.
Fact-checking team confirmed the video was authentic and showed the incident occurred in front of the Katagum Local Government secretariat during a clash between police and protesters waving a Russian flag.
A resident of Azare, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed the deceased was one of the hoodlums arrested by the police, although this could not be independently verified. As of reporting, Bauchi Police Command spokesperson SP Ahmed Wakil had not responded to inquiries about the killing.
