EDO Queens of Benin City not only won the WAFU Zone B qualifying tournament for the CAF Women’s Champions League in Cote d’Ivoire, they also dominated the official Team of the Tournament with some stellar individual performances.
The Nigerian representatives produced almost half of the XI, with five of their players named in the team.
The Edo Queens stars in the Team of the Tournament are Emem Essien, Valentino Uroko, Vera Samuel, Ijeoma Samuel as well as Suliat Abideen, who is the competition’s Most Valuable Player.
Edo Queens won every group phase match and eased past Beniniose side Ainonvi FC 3-0 in the final to become the third Nigerian club to win the tournament.
The victory earned the Nigeria Women’s Football League winners the regional competition’s sole ticket to the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The host country for the finals of the continent’s elite women’s club tournament will be named during CAF’s General Assembly to be held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo in October.
