Chelsea Football Club’s efforts to secure the signature of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen have hit a major roadblock. The Premier League giants reportedly offered Osimhen a contract worth €155,000-a-week, but the offer has been rejected by the player.
Despite the setback, a delegation from Chelsea is currently in Naples, attempting to convince the prolific forward to join the London club.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen is part of their broader strategy to bolster their attacking options.
The Blues have struggled in front of goal, a weakness that was highlighted in their recent 2-1 defeat to Swiss side Servette in the UEFA Conference League, despite taking an early lead.
The club’s management believes that Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess could be the key to turning their fortunes around.
However, Chelsea is not the only club vying for Osimhen’s services. Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli has also made a significant offer to Napoli, reportedly agreeing to a package worth between €75-80 million. The proposed contract includes a four-year deal, with Osimhen set to earn between €25-30 million per season, net of taxes. The offer also includes a release clause, which is said to be less than €100 million.
Al Ahli, determined to strengthen their squad, is not waiting idly for Osimhen’s decision. The Saudi club has reportedly lined up England forward Ivan Toney as an alternative target.
Toney is currently undergoing medicals, and if Osimhen opts to join Chelsea, Al Ahli is expected to swiftly move to finalize the deal for the Brentford striker.
As it stands, Osimhen remains in Italy, with no final decision made on his future.
Chelsea’s offer reportedly involves a loan deal with an obligation to buy, but the Nigerian forward has yet to be convinced to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
The coming days will be crucial as both Chelsea and Al Ahli look to secure the services of one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
