A Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has remanded a 38-year-old farmer, Timothy Sunday, in a corrections centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) charged Sunday with rape, which s contrary to section 257 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
Counsel for the NSCDC, Marcus Audu told the court that the complainant, Judith Jonathan reported the matter at the corps’ office in Kafanchan on Aug.8.
Audu stated that Sunday lured the complainant’s daughter into his room and defiled her.
He said the victim was taken to the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Kafanchan for a medical examination
However, the Chief Magistrate, Michael Bawa, declined to take the plea of Sunday for lack of jurisdiction to hear the matter.
He directed the prosecutor to forward duplicate copies of the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
He adjourned the matter until Sept 26 for further mention
