David De Gea joins Fiorentina after one-year break

David de Gea has joined Fiorentina as a free agent, one year after leaving Manchester United.

The Spanish goalkeeper was confirmed by the Serie A club today after passing his medical tests.

โ€œACF Fiorentina has announced the signing of David de Gea Quintana,โ€ the Italian club stated on their official website.

โ€œDe Gea, born in Madrid on November 7, 1990, came through Atletico Madridโ€™s academy before making it into the clubโ€™s first team, winning the Europa League and European Super Cup.

โ€œAhead of the 2011/12 season he joined Manchester United, where he went on to win one Premier League, one Europa League, one FA Cup, two League Cups and three Community Shields.โ€

De Gea made 545 appearances for Manchester United, a record for a foreigner, and kept the most clean sheets at the club, with 190.

De Gea has also represented Spain on 45 occasions and won the U-21 European Championships with his country.
Fiorentina will officially unveil De Gea on Monday, the club confirmed.

De Gea was released by Manchester United at the end of the 2022/2023 season, his last game for the club the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Despite links with several clubs across Europe and Middle East, De Gea did not make a move throughout last season.
