No fewer than 12 persons burnt to death in an auto crash that occurred on Tuesday around Malo, Ogere, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of Ogun State, when a Mazda bus rammed into the road divider.
Four other persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident
Involved in the crash was Mazda bus with registration number: DDA733XA
Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, Ogun State, Florence Okpe confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Tuesday.
Okpe said that 16 persons (12 male adults, three female adults and one female child) were inside the bus. While four sustained injuries, the remaining 12 were burnt beyond recognition.
She said that the cause of the lone crash was as a result of wrongful overtaking by the bus driver which led to the loss of control, resulting in hitting the vehicle into the road divider, which made it fell and engulfed fire.
The chief superintendent route commander added that the injured persons had been taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere.
Ogun Sector Command, CC Akinwunmi Fasakin, expressed sadness over the accident, calling on motorists to exercise caution while driving.
Fasakin, who commiserated with the families of the victims, said he was pained over the recklessness of some motorists who drive on the highway and refuse to obey traffic rules.
He charged motorists to maintain the stipulated speed on the highway and also ensure a clear road before overtaking.
