The Kano State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the theft of a signpost from the Bachirawa Police Station in Ungogo Local Government Area.
The theft, which occurred during the #EndBadGovernance protest, was captured in a viral video where one of the suspects was seen dragging the signpost away, sparking widespread condemnation.
The protest, which started peacefully, escalated into violence, resulting in a clash with the police. Reports indicate that five people were shot during the confrontation.
The arrests were confirmed by SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, in a statement shared on Facebook. Kiyawa noted that the suspects were apprehended with the help of local residents. He expressed gratitude to the people of Bachirawa, who not only assisted in the arrest but also installed a new signpost at the police station.
The police have praised the cooperation between the community and law enforcement as a positive step towards maintaining peace and order in the area. As investigations continue, the suspects are expected to be charged in court soon, with the police reaffirming their commitment to justice and public safety in Kano State.
