THE Kaduna State Government has lifted the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria following the recent violence related to the #EndBadGovernance protests.
This decision was made this morning after a comprehensive assessment of the security situation in both cities and their surroundings by the Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani.
In a statement, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced that the curfew, previously set from 6 pm to 8 am, has been completely removed.
As a result, the statement indicated that law-abiding citizens are now free to move about and engage in lawful activities in Kaduna and Zaria, without any restrictions.
The Security Council also cautioned that any processions or gatherings must be coordinated with the appropriate agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order and ensure the overall safety of the public.
“The curfew removal is effective immediately, starting today, Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
“After an extensive assessment conducted last night, the Kaduna State Security Council unanimously recommended lifting the curfew and reaffirmed its commitment to the security and safety of the people in Kaduna State.
“The Council further emphasized that any gatherings or processions need to be confirmed with the relevant authorities to prevent disruptions to public order and ensure the safety of all citizens.
“Additionally, security forces will remain vigilant for any threats to public peace and will take action against individuals or groups posing such threats.
“Governor Sani, during the briefing, praised the leadership of security agencies, as well as religious and traditional leaders, and all key stakeholders for their efforts in managing the unfortunate events that followed the protests in Kaduna and Zaria.
“The Governor assured these key stakeholders of his commitment to inclusivity and collaboration, promising to continue engaging them to promote peace, unity, and development in Kaduna State.”
