Organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests have issued a 17-point ultimatum to the Federal Government ahead of their planned nationwide demonstrations on October 1, 2024. The demands were outlined on Tuesday by one of the key organizers, Omoyele Sowore.
The group’s demands include the immediate and unconditional release of detained protesters, the unfreezing of their assets, and compensation for the hardships they endured during peaceful demonstrations.
The movement also insists on the removal and prosecution of government officials accused of suppressing protests and violating human rights.
In a bold move, the organizers are calling for the scrapping of the 1999 Constitution and its replacement with a new constitution crafted by the people. They also demand the restructuring of Nigeria to better accommodate its diverse population.
Among their other demands are:
- “Pay Nigerian workers a minimum wage of no less than N250,000 monthly.
- Invest heavily in education and provide Nigerian students with grants, not loans. Aggressively pursue free and compulsory education for children across Nigeria.
- Release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally and demilitarize the South-East. All #ENDSARS and political detainees must also be released and compensated, among other demands.”
The ultimatum sets the stage for the upcoming protests, as the movement seeks to address longstanding grievances against the government.
The organizers have indicated that failure to meet their demands could result in sustained and widespread protests.
