President Bola Tinubu will embark on a three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, following an invitation from President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
The visit seeks to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
According to a State House press release, Tinubu will be received by his Equatorial Guinean counterpart at the Presidential Villa in Malabo upon arrival.
The two leaders are scheduled to hold meetings and sign agreements in the areas of oil and gas and security.
The Nigerian delegation will include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and other cabinet members who will participate in the signing of agreements and explore opportunities to enhance bilateral relations.
Equatorial Guineaโs invitation for discussion on oil and gas is significant, given both countriesโ status as oil producers in Africa.
The Central African countryโs crude oil production was reported at 54.881 barrels per day in December 2023 while Nigeriaโs daily crude oil production increased marginally to 1.307 million barrels per day in July 2024.
Tinubu and Mbasogoโs discussions may also cover technology exchange and collaborative projects in the energy sector.
The trip comes months after President Tinubuโs controversial state visit to Qatar in February, which initially faced setbacks.
In April, the president was in The Netherlands at the invitation of Prime Minister Mark Rutte and participated in the World Economic Forum meeting in Saudi Arabia.
