Ahead of the first-ever tourism parliament scheduled to hold in Abuja on Thursday, a leading tourism media expert, Mr. Ayo Omotosho, has called on the federal government to prioritize tourism in its broader development strategy.
The Tourism Parliament, organized by Travelogue Communication, would hold for the first time in Abuja on August 15th at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The media consultant to the event named: Abuja Tourism Parliament, Mr. Sonde Oluwaseun, on Tuesday, quoted Omotosho as saying that integrating tourism into the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration would serve as a catalyst for national development, peace, and renewed optimism among Nigerians.
Omotosho, who noted the essential role of federal, state, and local governments in advancing the tourism sector, said that the government’s involvement is crucial for creating an enabling environment.
This support, according to him, should focus on infrastructure development, improved security, and positioning Nigeria as a top tourism destination in Africa.
“Tourism is fundamental to our economy and closely linked to political processes. Effective policies and practices are needed to ensure tourism contributes meaningfully to national development,” Omotosho stated.
Speaking about the Abuja Tourism Parliament, he said it is aimed at bringing together stakeholders, media professionals, and policymakers to address current issues in Nigerian tourism and explore solutions.
Omotosho noted the significance of this edition, which, he said, shifts the focus from previous Lagos-based events to target influential figures such as governors and executives who play a crucial role in shaping tourism policies.
“The event is anticipated to attract a range of dignitaries and media executives, marking a pivotal moment for the tourism sector. The Tourism Parliament aims to foster a new era of collaboration among government, private sector stakeholders, and the media, setting the stage for future growth in Nigeria’s tourism industry and across Africa’’, he said.
