POLICE in Abuja have deployed tear gas to block #endbadgovernance protesters from entering Eagles Square in the nation’s capital.
Today, a large group of protesters shunned an order from the Federal Capital Territory that limited the demonstration to the MKO Stadium.
This restriction was issued by Justice Sylvanus Oriji yesterday, following an ex-parte application from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The protesters however, proceeded to Eagles Square, which was the original intended location for the demonstration.
As they neared the site, police fired tear gas, creating a thick cloud of smoke that hindered the crowd’s progress.
It is currently unclear what actions the protesters will take next.
Some demonstrators who spoke to newsmen emphasized their right to protest and criticized the police’s response. They also urged the government to address their demands.
