The Federal Government, on Thursday, unveiled its fourth Renewed Hope road infrastructure legacy project, which will traverse the North East States from Akwanga to Jos, Bauchi, and Gombe.
The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi revealed the initiative during a courtesy visit to Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media) to the minister, Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji, quoted Umahi as addressing concerns about the previous distribution of road projects and clarified that the shortfall was not a result of actions by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or himself.
He said that Tinubu is committed to rectifying the issue by launching the new legacy project, which aims to improve road connectivity across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
The minister highlighted that the four Renewed Hope legacy projects are crucial for enhancing the nation’s infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and facilitating regional integration.
The projects, according to him, are expected to boost agriculture, create jobs, support tourism, and advance industrialization.
On the ongoing efforts to secure funding for the projects, he noted that the president is working to revive a previous agreement with China for financial support, and assured that the road will not only be constructed but also dualized once the funding is secured.
The minister inspected several flood-damaged road sections, including the Kano-Maiduguri road and areas affected by flooding along the Bauchi-Gombe route.
He assured affected communities that immediate relief and interventions are being prioritized to address the damage and restore functionality.
Also speaking, Governor Bala Mohammed praised the Federal Government’s swift response and proactive measures and expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and the government’s commitment to addressing the road infrastructure challenges in the state.
