A fire incident that occurred at the Lagos State Government staff quarters, on Friday, destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
It was gathered that the fire started at the quarters located at Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba, Ikeja, around 2.30am.
According to the Head, Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, the fire affected one of the two-bedrooms in Flat 5, of Block 21, a two-winged, three-story building of 16 two-bedroom flats.
He attributed the cause of the fire to electrical surge, which emanated from the childrenโs room.
โThe fire completely consumed the childrenโs bedroom, resulting in loss of properties worth millions of Naira,โ Okunbor said in a statement.
The fire has since been fully extinguished through the combined efforts of LASEMA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police Force.
โA thorough investigation conducted by the Agencyโs LRT unveiled that the fire originated from an electrical surge in the childrenโs room.
โThe prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agencyโs LRT, NPF, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly,โ the LASEMA spokesperson added.
Fortunately, there was no loss of life, nor injuries sustained in the incident.
