A total of one thousand women petty traders in Abia State have received recapitalization grants of fifty thousand naira each from the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Economic Empowerment Programme.
The initiative is championed by the presidentโs wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and is aimed at improving the living standards of Nigerians, particularly women, including those who are into petty businesses
Flagging off the distribution of the cash at the Abia State Government Banquet hall Umuahia, Mrs Tinubu, who was represented by Mrs. Salamatu Gbajabiamila, wife of the chief of staff to the President said that the grant is part of the RHIโs target to make every woman in Nigeria self-reliant.
She noted that the idea is to provide the beneficiaries with the wherewithal and conducive environment to be economically productive and employers of labour.
According to the presidentโs wife, the empowerment programme of 1000 women petty traders that is taking place simultaneously across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, is part of the continued commitment to drive economic growth towards a better life for families.
She said the government is aware of the challenges faced by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), especially the petty traders, who form the backbone of local economies, adding these challenges, however, have not deterred the strength of women who have remained resilient to put food on the tables for your families.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Abia State Governor and coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative in the state, reaffirmed the programโs dedication to transforming the lives of Nigerian families.
She highlighted the critical role women play in sustaining their households and communities, particularly through micro and small-scale enterprises.
โToday, we are not just giving out grants; we are unlocking potential,โ Mrs. Otti said.
โThis financial support will empower 1,000 women in Abia to not only sustain their families but also to contribute significantly to the economic fabric of their communities. Itโs a moment for them to bring their economic aspirations to life and open doors to new opportunities.โ
Mrs. Otti also urged the women to embrace this support with determination, viewing it as a stepping stone to greater success.
She extended her heartfelt appreciation to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her unwavering dedication to uplifting Nigerian women and also commended Governor Alex Otti for his visionary leadership and policies that prioritise the welfareย ofย Abiaย women.
