Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has attributed his rise to power and continued leadership to divine intervention, stating that God is the force sustaining his administration.
He made this declaration during the centenary celebration of the First African Church Mission at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Old Port Harcourt Township on Sunday.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Fubara emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Rivers State.
“I am conscious of the fact that it is the grace of God that first brought me to office and also keeps me,” he said.
“That is why I am looking unto God to do what He has sent me to do in Rivers State.”
Governor Fubara reassured the congregation that he would not disappoint the people entrusted to his leadership by God, pledging to remain focused on delivering on his promises. He acknowledged the distractions posed by agitations from ousted local government chairmen and embattled House of Assembly members, but vowed to stay on course.
“We are aware of these attempts to make us lose focus so when 2027 comes, they would say, what has he achieved? But I am focused on God and focused to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers,” he stated.
The governor highlighted recent developments, including the launch of the Smart Port City in Eleme Local Government Area and the TAF City project near the international airport, aimed at revitalizing the state’s urban landscape.
“I assure you that in addition to developments in health care, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and others, we will develop new cities that benefit all Rivers people,” he said.
Governor Fubara also expressed his gratitude to the First African Church Mission for its contributions to the spiritual and moral growth of the state, and supported the church’s centenary celebration with a donation of N30 million for the construction of support offices. He called on the congregation to continue praying for the government and the state, acknowledging that it is the prayers of the faithful that sustain his administration.
“The mandate given to us will be used judiciously,” he assured.
The event marked a significant milestone in the church’s history and served as an opportunity for the governor to reaffirm his commitment to the people and to his faith.
