Happening now: Gmail ‘goes down’

Gmail is down for users worldwide, leaving them unable to send emails or access their accounts.

The outage which hit the Google service is plaguing users in the US, the UK, parts of Europe, Australia, Asia and South America.

Also, some parts of Africa are not left out.

More than 1.8 billion people across the globe use Gmail, but the number of those impacted Thursday is unknown.

Users shared their frustrations about the email service issues on X, with some sharing screen shots showing an error message that reads: ‘Oops, something went wrong.’

DownDetector, a site that monitors online issues, showed users reported problems with Gmail throughout the day, but a complete outage hit in the afternoon.

That is when most Americans are in the middle of their workday.

Approximately 82 percent of issues reported to DownDetector cited sending emails, while 15 percent cited server connection and a small three percent is linked to the website.
