The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has once again urged those protesting against the administration of President Bola Tinubu to come forward for dialogue.
He assured that the government is ready to listen and address their concerns, as well as provide insights into governance issues that protesters may not be aware of.
Appeal for Dialogue
Speaking on Thursday during the presentation of staff of office to four newly appointed chiefs in the territory, Wike emphasized the importance of peaceful protests and commended the nonviolent approach of protesters in the FCT.
He reiterated the governmentโs openness to dialogue, stating, โWe are ready to listen to them and also walk them through some governance issues that they may not have been privy to.โ
Emphasis on Peaceful Protests
Wike praised the protesters in Abuja for maintaining nonviolence and urged them to continue resisting any attempts to incite destruction.
โI commend the protesters in the FCT for being nonviolent and urge them to continue to resist those who want to destroy the nation,โ he said.
Importance of Abuja
Highlighting the significance of Abuja as the nationโs capital, Wike noted that any destruction in the FCT would have far-reaching negative consequences for the entire country.
โAbuja remains a precious asset to the country, and if it is destroyed, it will have negative consequences on the entire nation,โ he added.
Looking Ahead
As protests continue across Nigeria, the call for dialogue by Minister Wike represents a critical step towards addressing the grievances of the demonstrators.
The governmentโs willingness to engage in constructive discussions could pave the way for a peaceful resolution and a deeper understanding of the issues at hand.
