Protesters in Kaduna on Monday defied President Bola Tinubu’s plea to vacate the streets and give his administration time to address their grievances by blocking major roads in the state while waving the Russian national flags.
Recall NewsNGR reported that protesters in Plateau State as well as Kano and other states across the northern part of the country protested on Saturday waving the Russian flags.
The flag was also seen on Sunday across some states in the North, a development that hinted at a call for external intervention in Nigeria.
An inscription on the Russian flag on Sunday in Plateau had read, “We are Nigerians, Russia help us.”
On Monday, despite heavy security presence, major roads in Kaduna State were occupied by protesters who defied warnings from both the president and the state government that their grievances would be addressed.
An X user, Imran Wakili, stated that protesters set up a bonfire near a petrol station at Bakin Ruwa Junction on Monday.
“They lit tyres on fire beside the NNPC (Shema) filling station in Bakin Ruwa junction Kaduna, waving Russia’s flag,” Mr Wakili stated while attaching a video of the protesters.
Another X user, @ThegreatKhaleyd, confirmed the presence of the Russian flag at the Kawo protest centre in Kaduna saying some protesters were holding leaves while others were waving Russian flags.
Another X/Twitter user Abdul-Aziz Na-ibi Abubakar shared the video of the Kaduna Protests saying, “Kaduna Protest Today is indeed electric.”
NewsNGR observed that the Kaduna-Zaria expressway was also blocked by protesters.
