The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has said Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Judiciary destroyed the 2023 general election.
A lawyer and law lecturer, Sam Amadi, stated that INEC failed to play by the rule it set for the last general election.
He added that the Judiciary failed in its responsibility of nullifying elections that were not conducted in line with the rules.
A former Imo State governorship aspirant, under Labour Party, Amadi said INEC made a rule of transmitting election results from polling units and was bound to obey it, but failed.
He said this on Thursday while speaking at 1st Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) Roundtable on the ‘Role of Judiciary in Democracy Sustainability‘, in Abuja.
He explained that elections are won on strategy, unfortunately, Nigeria’s strategy requires bribing INEC, Judiciary and security agencies.
“In all countries, election is won on strategies, in Nigeria, election is won on strategy and the strategy is very simple, bribe Judiciary, bribe INEC, camaraderie security agencies and you are done.
“The people that destroyed 2023 election are INEC and Judiciary. The rules were clear. The Electoral Act is not perfect, but it was clear, an internal regulation built on law. INEC and Supreme Court got it wrong.
“When an agency created under act, makes rules those rules are law. They can unmake through rulemaking process, if they don’t, they are bound to obey it. Results should have been transmitted electronically. I’m ashamed that Court affirmed that INEC can walk away from the law. I hold INEC responsible and I hold the court responsible for the elections.
“If election was held outside the rules, that was enough to nullify the election. Elections should be nullified if they are conducted outside the rule. Our jurisprudence is faulty. Too much burden on the Court is caused by INEC,” Amadi said.
