Insurgency: Airstrike neutralise terrorist commanders, 35 others

IN a strategic move to further undermine the activities of remaining terrorist elements in the Northeast, while safeguarding civilians and military personnel, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted an air interdiction mission on August 16, 2024, in Arina, Southern Tumbuns, Borno State.

In a statement issued by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, reported that five key terrorist commanders were believed to be at the location during the operation, including Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki. These individuals, along with over 35 other fighters, were eliminated during the strike.

The statement further noted that prior to the mission, intelligence reports had indicated the covert movement of terrorists into the area from nearby locations.

Confirmatory Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions, carried out on August 12 and 15, 2024, identified a significant number of terrorists and active structures concealed under trees.

โ€œIn a decisive effort to weaken the remaining terrorist presence in the Northeast and ensure the protection of civilians and troops, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai executed a successful air interdiction mission on August 16, 2024, in Arina, Southern Tumbuns, Borno State.

โ€œBefore the mission, intelligence had uncovered the covert migration of terrorists into the area from neighboring locations. Subsequent Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions conducted on August 12 and 15, 2024, confirmed the presence of numerous terrorists and active structures hidden under trees. As a result, coordinated airstrikes were carried out on the target location, effectively neutralizing several terrorists and destroying their structures.

โ€œBattle Damage Assessment following the strikes revealed that several pieces of equipment, vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary were destroyed.

โ€œMoreover, credible intelligence indicated that five key terrorist leaders were either killed or critically injured in the strike. These commanders, who were believed to be present during the operation, include Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki, along with over 35 other fighters.
