Nigerian youths should continue to agitate for good governance despite ill-treatment being meted to them by the Nigerian political system.
A former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye, stated this in Enugu while answering questions on the significance of the International Youth Day being celebrated today globally.
He said the day was being used to raise awareness on the plights of youths, adding that what affects the youth affects everyone.
According to him, “Nigerian youths should sustain their demands for their rights. Our youths have been suppressed and oppressed by the system. The saying that youths are leaders of tomorrow is not feasible in Nigeria because the tomorrow does not come. My heart goes out to our youths because only those highly connected see the light of the day.”
He said some people referring to youths as destructive are wrong. Quoting him, “Something good came from the #EndSARS protest. The hunger protests that just held also attracted good development. The entire world saw what is going on in Nigeria. President Tinubu had to speak towards addressing the issues raised.
“I feel sad that some youths lost their lives during the protests. They also exposed how their fellow youth collect bribes to rig elections and sabotage the youth. I am of the APC, but this matter is not a party matter, but individuals.
“People say Gov Alex Otti is working in Abia because he understands what his people need. Unemployment and hardship expose Nigerian youths to crimes. The Nigerian government is not doing enough.
“Our leaders have their children schooling overseas. When they are sick, they move abroad to get treated. I urge our youths to continue to demand their rights. Some day, we shall get it right.”
