Gunmen have kidnapped Aribibia John Fubara, a senior director at the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service in Port Harcourt.
The abduction occurred when six armed men arrived in the Marine Base area of the city by speedboat.
Witnesses reported that the attackers fired several shots into the air before abducting Fubara, a Knight of Saint Christopher in the Anglican Communion, and fleeing to an unknown location.
Fubara’s brother, Emmanuel Fubara, confirmed the kidnapping and stated that the family has reported the incident to the police.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko has also confirmed the kidnapping.
Details regarding the assailants’ demands or the victim’s current location are still unknown as investigations are ongoing. The Commissioner of Police has instructed tactical units to ensure the safe release of Fubara and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspects.
Iringe-Koko stated, “The command is aware of the incident, and the CP has directed tactical units to ensure the victim’s safe return. A manhunt has been launched to capture those responsible and bring them to justice.”
