The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Saturday denied directing corps members to upgrade their bank accounts to be able receive the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage.
There were claims on social media that corps members were asked to upgrade their bank account to meet the requirement for the new minimum wage.
According to the reports, corps members’ bank accounts are usually in the Student Account category which are allegedly restricted to deposits not exceeding N50,000 and accumulated savings not exceeding N300.
However, the NYSC through its Director, Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, said: “Management has been drawn to a misleading information circulating in the media regarding payment of #70, 000 minimum wage to Corps Members and the directive to upgrade their accounts.
“This is absolute falsehood which is far from the truth. Corps Members, parents and members of the public should note that no directive has been received from the relevant sector of government responsible for wages matters.
“It is therefore impossible for the NYSC to issue any information on such. Corps Members already know the approved channel and mode of communication in the Scheme and should therefore ignore the directive accordingly.”
He noted that, “The NYSC by this release therefore admonishes Corps Members to desist from allowing mischief makers who are set to mislead Nigerians from continuing to play on their intelligence.
“Bloggers and social media influencers are warned to stop issusing statements that concern the management of National Youth Service Corps without authorization.”
