The Kano State Government has paid tribute to a late operative of the Kano Vigilante Command who lost his life in the line of duty, as well as another who sustained serious injuries while protecting public property.
The deceased, Bashir Auwal, from Tudun Fulani in Ungogo Local Government Area, was killed while attempting to mediate a dispute among thugs in his locality.
Similarly, another vigilante, Yunusa Ibrahim Yunus, popularly known as Baba Kukawa, sustained severe head injuries while preventing the theft of solar system equipment at Kwanar Dala in Dala Local Government Area.
The operatives were honoured on Friday at a ceremony held in the Kano Government House, and was presided over by the Director General of Special Services, AVM Ibrahim Umar (Rtd).
According to Umar, the ceremony was a gesture of gratitude from the state government, aimed at supporting the families of the slain and injured operatives.
He also stated that the incentives were meant to encourage other vigilante members to continue their steadfast efforts in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The family of the late Auwal received two 50kg bags of rice, N500,000 in cash for his wife, and a posthumous award.
Also, Auwal’s parents give N50,000 each while Kukawa was awarded N50,000, a 50kg bag of rice, a commendation award, and a promotion to the next rank, as announced by the state vigilante commander, Shehu Rabiu.
Umar however reiterated the Kano State Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of vigilante operatives to enhance their effectiveness in maintaining peace and security in the region.
