Lagos Govt Shuts Down Churches, Hotels for Violating Environmental Laws

The Lagos State Government has stepped up its enforcement of the State Environmental Laws of 2017, closing several businesses and religious institutions found to be in violation.

On Tuesday, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) led an operation in the Ojo Local Government Area, sealing off establishments including churches, hotels, bars, an event centre, and a recycling company.

The targeted facilities were reportedly in breach of the stateโ€™s stringent environmental standards. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, emphasized the agencyโ€™s unwavering commitment to maintaining environmental integrity throughout Lagos.

โ€œWe will not hesitate to take necessary actions against any establishment that fails to comply with the stateโ€™s environmental regulations,โ€ Ajayi stated.

โ€œWe urge all businesses to take responsibility for their environmental impact and work with the state government to create a better future for Lagos.โ€

Ajayi reaffirmed LASEPAโ€™s dedication to ensuring a clean and safe environment for all residents of Lagos, warning that the agency will continue to monitor compliance closely and take decisive action against violators.

Among the establishments sealed during the operation were Rockslide Gospel Church, Unique Caesar & Bar, a Recycling Company, New Yorker Hotel, Flex Bar & Spa Hotel, Mountain of Faith International Gospel, Jesus International Christian Church, VLC Donald Restaurant & Event Centre, Zion Believers Church, and VLC Donald Hotel.

This latest enforcement action underscores the Lagos State Governmentโ€™s commitment to upholding environmental laws and standards, as it continues to ensure that all establishments adhere to the necessary regulations to protect the environment and public health.
